About this experience

This guided adventure begins with your guide welcoming you, introducing the group, providing safety instructions, and helping you get comfortable with the equipment. Before we set off, you’ll receive tips on basic paddling techniques to ensure a safe and enjoyable day on the water.

In stable double kayaks, we paddle across Tunsbergdalsvatnet, a stunning glacier lake fed by Jostedalsbreen, Norway’s largest glacier. As we move deeper into the valley, you’ll enjoy dramatic views of steep mountain walls, cascading meltwater waterfalls and the quiet, untouched nature that makes this area a true hidden gem. On calm days, we can paddle close to the waterfall and if you dare, you can cool off under the refreshing spray.

The route follows the shoreline, and new panoramas open around the bends of the lake. After about 2 hours of paddling, we reach the end of the glacier lake and bring the kayaks ashore. From here, we continue by foot.

A short, scenic hike leads us to a secluded viewpoint with breathtaking panoramic views of Tunsbergdalsbreen, one of the most remote glacier arms located within Jostedalsbreen National Park.

This is a peaceful place to slow down, enjoy your lunch, take photos, and learn more from your guide about the glacier, the valley and the surrounding nature. In poor weather, we can seek shelter inside our lavo, staying warm and dry while we eat.

After a well‑deserved break, we paddle back the same way and finish the trip where we started. On warm days, it’s also possible to take a swim, so remember your swimsuit and towel.

Additional information

To ensure a safe and comfortable experience on the tour, it is important to bring the right equipment. Weather in the mountains can change quickly – so pack accordingly to be prepared for all conditions.

We recommed you to bring:

Clothing suitable for the weather (windproof and waterproof layers recommended)
Insulating layers such as a wool/fleece sweater or a down/synthetic jacket
Cap, sunslotion and sunglasses
Hat and gloves
Extra set of clothes (capsizing can happen)
Swimsuit and towel
Shoes that can get wet
Shoes for hiking
Lunch, snacks and water
Waterproof bag or plastic bag for your belongings

Difficulty:

This is a beginner – and family-friendly tour. The difficulty is rated medium because of the full day outdoors, the distance we paddle, and the natural terrain we hike through. The paddling distance is approximately 16 km, and the hike is about 2 km round trip with around 100 meters of elevation. The terrain is uneven and natural, and you should be comfortable walking in this type of landscape. Wind can make paddling more challenging, but we always adapt the tour to the weather conditions to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.

Requirement:

You should be comfortable beeing on the water and able to svim.
