About this experience

Experience Vik through history.

Experience Vik through history

The tour starts with Vikøyri and the beach dweller settlement. We visit the Hopperstad stave church and Hove stone church. On our way we pass several burial mounds and other interesting sights. We also have the pleasure to introduce you to the local cheese, "gamalost".

We also visit the house of Voss Anders, a small historic house.

We take you for a walk to remember

On our way we will stroll in-between small, picturesque homes and boathouses that makes up the beach dweller settlement at Vikøyri. We also enter one of the small houses that still stands untouched as when it was abandoned many years ago.

The Hopperstad stavechurch is a "must see". The church is the oldest stavechurch in Norway and exhibits Norway's contribution to world architecture.

Hove stonechurch from the same period as the stavechurch may not be as grand as the cathedrals in Europe, but it's madonna sculpture is unique in Norway, and well worth the visit.

On our walk you also will hear about the interesting findings that was made when some of the burial mounds was excavated.

Included in the tour is a taste of the local specialty, "gamalost". The recipe for this cheese origin in Viking times and are still produced at the local dairy. Along with the cheese you will have locally made raspberry juice.

After completing the tour, we hope you had a day to remember and that you also will appreciate the beauty of Vik like we do. All our trips are in cooperation with our partners
